"There is a lot of emotion in this painting. I love the color and how it really speaks about an artist to an artist. It's the never ending thoughtful gaze of artist that really speaks to me because I have been here and you can really get the emotion that David has put into this. I love the composition as well."

This 2010 painting, although a portrait/figurative piece of a friend and fellow painter, is largely autobiographical.  While the figure may not be me, I wanted to illustrate the experience of evaluating one's art, those moments between brush strokes when you step back, and with a critical eye, evaluate the previous moment's brush strokes.  This contemplation, to me, is equally as important as the actual act of painting.  I posed my model in my studio over the course of several afternoons, surrounded by paintings and objects I live with in my workspace.
